35 Hour Plane Ride

Hours of organizing, shopping and packing result in far too many pounds of luggage stored in ziplock bags, suitcases and backpacks.  We must be prepared for the culture shock we are sure to experience in Calcutta, a place almost forgotten among the billion or so people who live in India.  We pack medical gloves, sanitizer of all kinds, medical scrubs, snacks, laptops, nursing books and of course personal clothes to make due for a month of the unexpected.

We board a plane tomorrow evening bound for San Francisco, then are routed to Hong Kong, followed by Singapore and a 9 hour layover.  You know you are traveling somewhere isolated when you have a 9 hour layover.  Finally we arrive in Calcutta (Kolkatta), which is widely known as the backdrop for much of Mother Teresa's famous life of service.

So after 35 hours of traveling we will arrive at the experience of a lifetime.  Please pray for our entire team and know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.  While India may present a drastic cultural change, God has presented this opportunity for a reason.  Please check back here for updates and pictures from our trip.
